Jen “For the first time, my child felt safe enough to touch broccoli because they knew they could explore it at their own pace.”

Olivia "I wasn't sure if my 4 year old would be interested in this but she often chooses it for her bedtime story. She loves the interactive questions & when i battle to get her to eat certain foods we often refer back to Kai & remember how good food makes us feel! Beautifully illustrated & a great addition for kids of all ages to learn more about how food impacts so many facets of our lives".

Kylee "A great read that would have it’s place in schools and health settings (as well as in homes of course)! Great way for kids to understand food in a healthy way from early on. So important to me as a Mum. My mental health working background has influenced how I talk about food around my kids, but probably only because of what I know professionally. This book is perfect for all kids to have on their bookshelf to help establish healthy relationships with eating. After all food is good! So good!"

Donna "My four grandsons love this book (aged 6 – 9) They made it into a game, had lots of laughter and fun, at the same time learning and retaining good lifestyle tips. I totally recommend this book".

    Happy parents!

What is the kai movement all about?

Rather than focusing on food rules and pressure to eat, we focus on taking the pressure off through:
👉Exploration over expectation – Kids learn to trust their bodies and listen to hunger cues.
👉Food as connection rather than conflict – Meals are about more than nutrients; they bring people together.
👉Play-based learning rather than being told what to do– Encouraging curiosity & confidence.

👉Finding ways to incorporate nutritious food in along the way – Growth & Wellness is important too!

This community is inspired by Kai’s Big Food Discovery, a story that helps children understand why they need food and how it connects them with people & the world around them.

    Hi, I'm Kendall North

My aim with Kai’s Big Food Discovery community is to encourage children to listen to their inner worlds and understand the many roles food plays in their overall well-being—physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual.

As a dietitian, former food technology and health teacher, and parent, this has been a true passion project for me. I’ve seen firsthand how food can become a source of stress, pressure, and power struggles, but I believe it should be something that brings joy, connection, and confidence instead.
